2007 is not happy....
This morning, in the newspaper, I read that Scandic Ederkoppen, an Oslo hotel refused to book rooms for a Cuban delegation.
Why?
Because of the United States' trade embargo against Cuba and because Scandic is owned by the U.S.-based Hilton Hotel Corporation since March 2006.
The Norwegian Foreign Ministry said companies operating in Norway have to obey Norwegian law, regardless of their home base. Norwegian union's deputy leader Anne Grethe Skaardal, stated "it is unacceptable for the U.S. to dictate to the whole world".
Obviously, I'm not gonna stay at Scandic or Hilton hotels anymore :-)
